Black Love Series Part

For the month of February, Madinina Kiss will be celebrating Black Love instead of Valentines Day in honor of Black History.  I did not realize that God was kindling spirits to promote the spirit of Love in our community.  When I felt the urge to do something different for “Valentines Day” this year, by showing love to other Black Owned Business, reminding my followers about self Love and above all the Love of God, I was completely unaware that a movement had already begun.  Thanks to a movement started by a sister named Ayo Handy-Kendi, I am in right in line with God’s Plan: Black Love 2017

The Best Kind of Love is God’s Love

The month of February for me has always been a month of self-awareness and reflection.  Between Valentines Day and Black History Month, it is a time to look at our lives, and gain strength and find love.  The bible tells us that God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall no perish but have everlasting Life (John 3:16).  This is the same Son that sacrificed His life so we may always find grace and mercy with our Father, our Creator.  Imagine that kind love.

Self Love.
It took me a long time to love myself.  Tear The Veil, Inc. was created for that reason.  I have been on a mission to discover the “me” God created me to be.  I still struggle, especially when my inner child rears its ugly head, eager to please my mother, yet still feeling judged, paying for a pain I did not cause.  I don’t doubt that my mother loves me, but I can’t shake the feeling that I am being blamed for a very painful part of her life.  When the inner child shows up, I don’t see my adult self.  My mind creates a block, and I can feel myself as a seven-year-old, struggling to embrace my womanhood.  Self Love…I sometimes feel that I have given out so much love, that I have none left for me.  Self Love…Loving yourself so much, that you can not hurt yourself, cause yourself pain, break your own heart. Stay Tuned because we are coming back, bigger and better than before.  There is a voice that needs to be heard, and there are people waiting for a testimony of how “LOVE” conquered all.

Black Love
In honor of “Black History Month”, we must take the time to remember those who loved us so much, that they too made a sacrifice so that the generations coming after them would not ever suffer the degradation of slavery, civil rights, human right and human equality.  People like Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Dr. Martin Luther King, Madiba aka Nelson Mandela, Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X and so many others who stood in the gap for my generation and generations to come without truly knowing the outcome, no knowing the people who would benefit from their sacrifice. I think Jay- Z Said it best: Rosa Park Sat so Martin Luther King could Walk, Martin Luther King Walked so Obama could Run, Obama Ran so WE ALL CAN FLY!!! Black Love…

And don’t forget to treat yourself.  No need to wait for that special someone to buy you a gift.  You can get your own gift of love.  Madinina Kiss has the perfect Black Love Day Gift.  Our Lover’s Brew Body Oil is perfect for that special time with that “Special Someone” or that alone time with yourself.  Made with a wonderful blend Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Safflower Oil and Essential Oil, out Lover’s Brew Oil will leave your skin soft and sexy.

Show yourself or someone some “LOVE” on this Black Love Day.

There’s a Stranger in the House

I take a moment from Madinina Kiss, to address a concern that will affect all Americans: The effects of the Executive Order attempting to ban certain groups of people from entering the United States.

I guess as an African- American woman, I should be sitting back with some popcorn and a glass of wine and watch this horrific movie we are calling “The United States of America”.  Contrary to popular belief, like the ones in office, we, as Black People, stand for justice, civil liberties and freedom.  I mean we had to fight for it ourselves, right?

When there was a cry to our Great Nation that #BlackLivesMatter, we were ridiculed, and mocked us by saying #AllLivesMatter? Really?   Yet hee we are defending not only Black Lives but Gay Lives, Women Lives, Muslim Lives, Womb Lives all because The Nation would not listen.

Now we are facing immigration ban issues, among other things, targeting the Muslims, (and not to mention that there is the threat to women’s reproductive rights that is about to set us back 50 years), we all forgot one group of people: The Native Americans.

We, as “Americans”  are standing on stolen property.  Fighting for equal rights while we are forgetting the ones who truly deserve “equal” rights, not tribunal sovereignty. Turning away innocent people will not change 9-11.  It will not bring back the loved lost, not=r erase that horrific day from our memories.  So why is our new President, so hell bent on condemning those who took no part in the acts of terrorism?  Who are themselves looking to escape from the suffering of those countries? Did we forget that our country was based on the same principal? Were not our “founding fathers” seeking religious freedom?  and yet here is a man, who is unconstitutionally seeking undo the foundation of what he claims “Makes America Great!”

Since he wants to put up borders, why not tear down Ellis Island, and return the Statue Of Liberty to France?

Please remember: IF YOU ARE NOT A NATIVE AMERICAN, YOU ARE AN IMMIGRANT.  If you came to the U.S. against your will, you are an immigrant.

17 For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.  18 He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing.  19 And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt.

Never Forget Whose Land We are Occupying,

How the Movie “Hidden Figures” helped me to keep pressing forward.

Black women have been the driving force behind everything great.  From slavery to today, Back women in front and behind the scenes making these happen, in spite of.  I dare say that President Barak Obama is the GREATEST President the United States has ever had because on his side, he had a Black Woman.  Sojourner Truth, an illiterate ex-slave who was a powerful figure in several national social movements, speaking forcefully for the abolition of slavery, women’s rights and suffrage, the rights of freedmen, temperance, prison reform and the termination of capital punishment.  Truth supported herself by selling portraits, captioned “I sell the Shadow to support the Substance.”  Harriet Tubman, was the mastermind behind the underground railroad, freeing thousands of slaves.  Madam C.J. Walker became a millionaire during a time of Jim Crow Laws and segregation.  And now, it is finally revealed that behind one of the greatest events in US History, were three great African-American Women.  These women mentioned did not have the civil freedoms we now enjoy in 2017.  And yet, they not only survived but thrived and succeeded in all they set out to do…In spite of.

Fast-forward to 2008, when the US embraced not only our first African American President but also our first African-American First Lady.  She is everything to me.  I remember when President Obama won the election in 2008, I shouted: “She looks like me, She looks like me.”  My husband just laughed…

What does this mean as an African American Female business owner like myself?  Don’t give up, don’t lose hope, believe in yourself and others will believe in you.

Hidden Figures has helped me to look at who I am in a different light.  When I am feeling as if the odds are against me, I know that this more of a reason for me to stand up and be great.  Working for NASA was no small feat in and of itself.  But these three women did it as wives, widows, and mothers.  I was almost ashamed of myself, as I began to question whether I would succeed as the CEO and Founder of Madinina Kiss or the Founder of Tear The Veil Inc.  I am sitting back, waiting for a miracle to happen.  The miracle is already inside of me…Waiting to be unleashed.

So as I take Madinina Kiss to the next level, I will not look back, left or right, but straight ahead at my Destiny that awaits me.  I too, intend to bear great fruit.

4 things to do to prepare your skin in the Winter for the Spring

The title can be a little misleading.  You should not let your skin go without the proper skin care regimen as your skin is the first defense and the firs thing people see.

It’s not just the snow melting and flowers blooming that changes from winter to spring when the season’s change, but you may also notice a difference in your skin. Since our skin is very sensitive to the world around us, helping it transition during the changing season by revisiting your skincare routine will help to optimize your best-looking skin.

We’ve created a list of skin care suggestions to help transition your skincare regimen from winter to spring.

We have blogged about the importance of exfoliating on numerous occasions, but in case you still need proof, here is what Pure Fiji has to share about why we need to exfoliate: Exfoliation removes dead skin cells, leaving you with skin that is naturally beautiful, soft and radiant. Madinina Kiss offers excellent exfoliating products for all types of skin.  We love Coconut oil as a carrier oil and we add, brown or white sugar–depending on how sensitive your skin is and dead sea salt–to help detoxify your skin.  As CEO, my personal preference is our Brown Sugar Scrub.  I don’t mind the coarseness of it, even on my face.  Some of my clients, on the other hand, prefer the White Sugar Scrub, because it is less abrasive, especially on the face.  As for our multi-purpose Dead Sea Salt Scrub,  it is perfect in conjunction with a detoxification regimen as it helps lift any toxin that may release through your skin’s pores.  It is important to note however that, you must drink plenty of fluids if you choose to this method.  Unlike sugar scrubs, which help retain moisture, salt scrubs do the exact opposite.  Still, these methods both lead to a radiant and glowing skin.

What better way to keep your skin soft, supple and moisturized than with Madinina Kiss’ Body Butter Blends.  We off three varieties of butter: Shea, Cocoa, and Mango.  We blend our butter with organic Coconut Oil, refined or unrefined; or for our customers with nut allergies, we blend with Grapeseed Oil or Olive oil.  Apply our body butter, daily and especially after a shower or bath.

No need to tell you about the benefits of water in and out.  But there are plenty of people like me out there who do not enjoy just plain water.  If you are one those persons, try infusing your water with fresh or frozen fruits or vegetables.  My personal favorite: Lime and Cucumber in the Summer and Orange and Strawberries in the Spring.  Winter and Fall seasons, I just default to Lemon.  It is important to try to drink half of your weight in ounces of water or at least 64 oz. Doing this will hydrate you naturally from the inside out.  A natural alternative is Coconut Water.  It contains electrolytes that natural hydrate the body.

Fruits and Veggies are very important as part of your diet to keep your body and your skin healthy and glowing.  Incorporating a healthy dose of fruits and veggies also helps in maintaining a healthy digestives track, thus, lessening the chance of retaining toxins from all of the processed foods that we intake.  While, of course, it is best to eat as organically as possible, it just does not always work that way.

Madinina Kiss cares about your skin, in and out.  Make these four tips a part of your Natual Skin Care Regimen and Lifestyle.  Your body will love you for it!!

Stay Healthy and Blessed,

2017-Year of Growth for Madinina Kiss

And Finally, we want to bring our brand BACK to the Island from which it is named: Madinina aka Martinique.

These are just some of things we have in store.

2017 Here we come!

5 Essential Madinina Kiss Items to Keep Your Skin Hydrated to Get That Gorgeous Winter Glow.

Happy New Year!

Winter is HERE!!!! Now What? Between Dry Skin and Dry Hair, keeping our skin and hair moisturized seems to be a challenge.  In my last blog, I talked about how to transition from Summer into a Fall Skin Care Regime.  I talked about the benefits of sugar body scrubs, Shea Butter and Cocoa Butter as your go-to moisture “Super-Heroes”

As the leaves change in fall and winter, you may notice changes to your skin as well. You can easily develop rough, dry, and itchy skin during the colder months, especially if you live in an area where you’re exposed to cold, dry air and harsh winds.  This is why Madinina Kiss created its natural skin care line to help combat the seasonal changes that cause dry itchy skin.

In this blog, I want to really dive into why you may have dry skin in winter, and then take steps to prevent it from becoming a seasonal problem.

8 Reasons for Seasonal Dry Skin

First, understand why you may have dry skin in winter, and then take steps to prevent it from becoming a seasonal problem.

  1. Cold, dry air. Cold air has less moisture than warm or hot air. “Cold air can be intensely drying,” Dr. Banks says. To keep winter air from drying out your skin, apply a moisturizer daily. Moisturizers work by locking water into your skin’s top layer, so apply after bathing, while skin is still damp. During winter, a heavier lotion or cream can help your skin retain moisture longer, especially for rough or extra dry areas.
  2. Harsh winds. Strong winter winds can strip your skin of its natural lipids, which are the most important part of the skin barrier and keep skin from drying out. Cover up to protect against the wind by wearing a hat and a scarf, and apply a moisturizer with sunscreen before heading outdoors. Don’t forget your sunglasses, Banks says, which help protect the delicate skin around your eyes.
  3. Home, hot home. The heat in your house, especially if it’s a forced- air system, can be drying as well. To overcome this problem, use a humidifier to add moisture back into the air. If you don’t want to install a whole-house humidifier, at least consider a unit for your bedroom, and sleep with the door closed so the moist air doesn’t escape.
  4. A toasty fire. It may be awfully inviting to sit by a fireplace on a cold winter’s day, but “the heat from the toasty fire also can toast your skin,” Banks says. “Dead skin builds up quicker in dry heat.” To help prevent dry skin in winter, don’t light a fire — or at least stay farther away from its glow, and limit your time sitting by the fire.
  5. Hot showers and baths. “A hot shower can feel great when you’ve been out in the cold, dry air all day,” Banks says, “but it is actually very bad for your skin.” To prevent your skin from becoming dry, use lukewarm rather than hot water. When you shower, don’t make it a long one — aim for a maximum of 10 minutes. If you take a bath, adding a few drops of lavender or almond oil or colloidal (finely ground) oatmeal to the water can help soothe your skin. Your bathing products can make a difference, too. Don’t cleanse with products that can dry the skin, such as highly alkaline and detergent soaps. Then, “use your moisturizer within a minute or so of getting out of a shower or bath, as damp skin traps the water and locks in moisture,” Banks adds.
  6. Hot drinks. On a cold winter’s day, who doesn’t feel like warming up with a cup of hot coffee, hot chocolate, or even a hot toddy? However, coffee and chocolate contain caffeine, and “caffeine can dry your skin from the inside,” Banks says. And if you’re drinking a hot toddy, be aware that alcohol is a diuretic and has a dehydrating effect on your body, too. Instead, aim to add moisture to your skin from the inside as well as the outside. “It’s important to drink lots of water and stay hydrated,” Banks says. “For each cup of caffeine or glass of wine you drink, make sure you drink at least one glass of water.” Even better, replace your coffee or hot chocolate with a mug of chamomile or another herbal tea, which doesn’t contain caffeine.
  7. Winter clothing. That wool sweater grandma knitted for you may be cozy, but it can cause irritation and leave you with itchy skin. Choose clothing made of soft fabrics like cotton or silk instead. If you need to wear a wool sweater for warmth, layer it over a shirt made of cotton or silk so that it doesn’t rub against your skin. If you have sensitive skin, use mild, unscented, hypoallergenic laundry detergents and avoid fabric softener when washing your clothes and linens.
  8. The sun. Most people know the sun can damage skin in the summer when it’s the strongest, but winter sun can be just as damaging… “Even if you can’t feel the heat of the sun, the ultraviolet (UV) rays are still present, and therefore you’re still at risk for sun damage.” Always apply a natural sunscreen, like coconut oil, if you’re going outside in the daytime, even when the temperatures are near or below freezing. Use sunscreen on any exposed areas, especially your lips, with SPF 30 or above. “Even if it’s cold and windy, you still sweat, so remember to reapply sunscreen,” Banks says.

The winter winds and cold temperatures can do a number on your skin. But you can prevent your skin from getting dry, itchy, and damaged if you moisturize regularly, wear protective clothing and sunscreen, and take other smart precautions.

No need to fear! Madinina Kiss is here to the rescue!  Our line of natural skin care line provides the perfect solution to seasonal skin woes.

Here are the 5 Essential Madinina Kiss Items that will keep your skin hydrated.

1.Brown Sugar Body Scrubs

A natural humectant, brown sugar is known for drawing moisture out of the environment and depositing it to your skin. Our Brown Sugar Scrubs are a perfect exfoliant and will help you retain moisture in your skin during Fall/Winter season. Why is that, you ask?  Brown Sugar contains a natural glycolic acid—an essential component of alpha hydroxy acid family, making it a natural exfoliator for breaking down & removing dead skin cells.

2. Body Butter

The body butter is a nutrient dense cream used to hydrate the skin. There are various types of body butter such as shea butter, cocoa butter, mango, and kukui nut. Shea butter comes from the African shea nut tree. Cocoa butter comes directly from the cocoa seeds. Many pregnant women apply cocoa butter to their growing bellies to prevent stretch marks. Mango butter comes from mango seeds and is loaded with extra vitamin C. Kukui body butter is derived from the Kukui tree found in Hawaii. This body butter treat is chock full of vitamins A and E.  Madinina Kiss uses only three of the four kinds of butter listed,  Shea, Cocoa, and Mango.  Our Butter Blends are made with not only the wonderful butter mentioned but also the added moisturizing oils of coconut, grapeseed, and/or olive.  We sometimes use safflower oil, for our customers who may be allergic to coconut.

3. Body Oil

“Oils have a locking and protective nature,” explains REN Skincare Ambassador David Leigh Delport. “They improve cell cohesion, meaning that they can limit transepidermal water loss.”  While lotions and creams can also provide moisture, a change of formula, especially during the winter season, might be exactly what your skin needs. “The skin’s ability to retain moisture becomes compromised with time so you might apply a rich moisturizer and still feel dry,” says Tatcha founder Vicky Tsai. “A good beauty oil is formulated to seal in moisture and humectants.”  Madinina Kiss Body Oils offers four kinds of oil blends, formulated to not only hydrate but have an aromatherapeutic scent so you can “smell good”.

4. Hair Butter Cream

Moisture is essential for great natural coils and curls. When your hair feels a bit rough, and dry and looks that way too, this is the jar to reach for. Part of the Kiss Me Nature “Madinina” Hair Care System™, this Conditioning Butter Cream is a rich emollient blend, graced with the finest array of natural butter and organic oils. It gets the job done.  Our hair butter is made with Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Neem Oil and Avocado oil to give you the maximum moisturizer for your hair.

5. Dead Sea Salt

Dead Sea salt is a gift that the majestic waters have given us and the skin care properties make it even more special. If you want to make your body go through that perfect healing and cleaning experience, go ahead and start using a Dead Sea salt scrub. Scrubbing your body with Dead Sea salt is going to add to its health and would at the same time provide it with the nourishment required.  Dead Sea salt body scrub detoxifies the skin making it go all healthy and germ free. This is the scrub that would beautify you, cutting down those years of your body and make you look young and feel energetic.  Dead Sea Salt scrub would moisturize the skin, fight germs and reduce the appearance of signs of aging to a great extent!  And we have added some essential oils that are sure to help you relax.

Your skin is the first line of defense, therefore we need to make sure Madinina Kiss use only NATURAL products for our skin protectant products.
